Advancing clean energy

After the Bush administration stopped global warming standards for cars in California, and used a veto threat to stop a clean energy standard from passing the Senate, it became crystal clear to many that we need a clean energy champion in the White House come 2009.

To move us in that direction, Environment California teamed up with our allies other early primary states to engage the presidential candidates on clean energy issues. Beginning in December, Environment America, our national federation, sent out organizers and volunteers throughout California, as well as in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Nevada and Colorado. We talked with the candidates about their plans for clean energy and generated thousands of phone calls urging the candidates to pledge to meet America’s future energy needs with renewable energy.
