Why did you author AB 1470?

Solar power represents a significant energy resource for California. California can achieve greater energy independence, fight global warming, and save homeowners and businesses money by encouraging a mainstream market for solar. 

How will this law benefit California?

AB 1470 puts in place a cost-effective program for installing solar water heating systems on hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses, continuing to make California a world solar leader.  Whether or not an individual invests in their own solar system they still benefit from cleaner air, lowered energy prices and greater energy independence. 

What kind of opposition did you encounter with AB 1470?

Actually we had more support than opposition. AB 1470 was endorsed by community and environmental groups, businesses, and local governments. Unfortunately, we faced opposition from natural gas companies for much of the year but even they removed their opposition in the end.

What can Environment California members do to help ensure California remains a clean energy leader?

Members should stay active. We couldn’t have passed AB 1470 without Environment California’s help or their demonstrated public support for environmental solutions.
